I tried to do a wild grand finale -- thinking maybe a tripe or snoot sandwich would fit the bill -- but lots of the BBQ places with those selections are closed on Sundays. C&K was open, but to be honest I didn't feel like heading north today (I'm a little sluggish after all those sandwiches).
So... cucumber, feta and tzatziki sauce on pita. Light, but filling. Thanks Diane!
I may get one more sandwich in tonight (ice cream sandwich?). If not, I'll see y'all next NSM!
Feel free to add suggestions for next year on any of my sandwich photos here on Flickr.
A real, super-delicious veggie burger from Sqwires, enjoyed with Havarti and ketchup/mustard at the 2008 Tour de Lafayette. Posted @ 11:17 PM Central Time
I don't really consider anything you can't pick up a sandwich, but I just felt like a stacked Coney dog from Billie's Fine Foods in Soulard. Posted @ 9:50 PM Central Time
It was banquet night for our bowling league at Saratoga Lanes. Everyone brings something. I brought fried chicken. Someone brought White Castles. Yum. I can't help it. Posted @ 11:58 PM Central Time
Roasted ham, caramelized onions, Emmenthaler and Romaine on excellent sourdough. Topped with a fried egg, which I put inside the sandwich before eating.
Got this lovely specimen at Rooster in downtown St. Louis.
Big thanks to Thomas Crone for the conversation and sandwichversation tonight.
This one's the sesame tofu (VEG201) from The U: Marinated tofu, Napa cabbage, green onions, red peppers, provolone, sesame and orange vinaigrette. Awesome. Posted @ 8:00 PM Central Time
If you're familiar with National Sandwich Month, you know I do White Castle every year. This time it was four jalapeńo cheeseburgers before bowling night at the Saratoga. Posted @ 10:51 PM Central Time
Love this one from Al Tarboush Deli in the U City Loop. Chicken, pickle and garlic paste in a pita. Their hummus is great too. The kids even loved their meat pies! Posted @ 10:13 PM Central Time
Pulled a trifecta today: Sandwiches for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Had these at the kids' back-to-school picnic in Tower Grove Park. Posted @ 9:48 PM Central Time
Mmmm. Diane picked up the fixins for a Prosciutto, brie and fig sandwich on rosemary bread. The kids had leftover pizza. :-) Posted @ 8:56 PM Central Time
Yeah, another. Tried to get the portobella ciabatta for lunch at BreadCo but apparently those are seasonal. So superstar XPLANE intern Molly picked up my old standby, tuna salad. Posted @ 8:45 PM Central Time
Diane put this one together — one I'd never tried before. Sure, I like crab cakes... but I never thought to put a giant one in a toasted bun! Genius. Posted @ 8:37 PM Central Time
Pretty much my new favorite as of last month (one day I ate this for breakfast, lunch and dinner). It helps that I can even make it myself with no help from a real grown-up!
It's so simple but big on yum. Fresh tomatoes, Bulgarian feta cheese, olive oil and fresh cracked pepper in side a toasted whole wheat pita.
National Sandwich Month, 2008: Wherein I eat a sandwich every day for the whole month of August Posted @ 1:35 PM Central Time
Diane made this one. I can't remember its name (will find out, though) but it was PURE AWESOMENESS.
Volpi dry salami, Mortadella and Geneo salami on ciabatta with fresh basil, hearts of palm, sun-dreid tomatoes, sharp provolone and (I think) a tapenade.
A rabbit, duck and pistachio terrine, topped with stone ground mustard, a Missouri Chevre and some greens on housemade bread.
We went to The Shaved Duck for dinner (awesome) and I made this sandwich out of the wonderful variety of things we ordered (it's not a menu item). Though the duck fat frites you see on the side are on the menu and highly recommended. Posted @ 10:08 PM Central Time
Had a pretty good French dip from Stella Blues on Morgan Ford. Got it 'to go' on my way to bowling night at the Saratoga. Yes, I eat a French dip every year. Posted @ 11:04 PM Central Time
